Emotional Release Therapy

Hypnosis & the Ego

DLScott CH.t / CDP / AASD

In my last blog, I mentioned that I and a fellow hypnotherapist lead a class on Saturday June 26th, on Emotional Release Therapy.  In the past several years I have used this technique to help people move beyond their chemical dependency issues, utilizing clinical hypnosis,  and self hypnosis techniques, that teach clients how to let go of old thoughts and old behaviors, that have kept them stuck in the same patterns for years.

It brings to mind the question just what is the subconscious mind, and why does it create such problems for people?

There are basically three parts to your brain, The first part is the reptilian brain, this part of your brain is primarily in control of all automatic and autonomic functions of life, such as breathing,  pulse rate, and blood flow,  all those bodily functions that we have to have to live, and yet we never have to think of.

The second part of your brain is the sub cortical or subconscious.  From the moment you are first born all of the events, experiences, and information are downloaded into your subconscious through your senses; sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell. Each and every one of these images is neatly tucked away and utilized as part of our unique personal programming.  In many cases this programming becomes outdated and corrupted throughout time.

As an example, you when you were younger you may have had an adult grab you and pull you out of harm’s way, (such as being pulled from incoming traffic), this was actually a very good thing, but your young mind perceived it as someone manhandling you, or pushing you around. The recorded memory was there, it stayed there, and over time the message you received became corrupted and told you that people were going to restrict your movements, try to control you, etc. The subconscious simply does its job and keeps playing this memory over and over again, you may have even gotten to the point where you don’t consciously recall the incident, but you do feel the emotions that have gotten attached to that image.

In the present time, you constantly feel like you are constricted, controlled, pushed around, not listened to, and you exhibit behaviors that might temporarily make you feel better, BUT once the temporary fix is over, you are still in the same spot trying to deal with  memories and images that create feelings of low self worth, lack of control, etc.

The Ego is that collection of memories and images contained in your subconscious, your thoughts, where these often times buried or masked images play over and over again, and we are unaware that we have given our control and power away, allowing these things to guide and create our life.

With the techniques of Emotional Release Therapy, and Mindfulness Training, you will be astounded at the speed and ease in which you will let go of the emotions attached to those thousands and thousands of random and often useless thoughts that fill our subconscious.

If you had to monitor each and every thought that make up your Ego, you would never have time to do anything else. With Emotional Release Therapy, and Mindfulness training, you will be able to let go of the idea that you are those thoughts, that you are your feelings, and instead you will become the absolute master and controller of your own brain.

By becoming single minded you will be able to utilize the third part of your brain, the Cortex. The Cortex is that part of your brain, in which you are able to bypass the Ego, or the subconscious, and experience pure thought without the trauma of emotion that keeps you stuck.

Just listen to what one student of the class had to say:

“After taking the Emotional Freedom Therapy class I noticed several breakthroughs!  The process is so simple yet very profound.  I had a deeper sense of self choice and self forgiveness in every area of my life as well as releasing stress.  The idea that I can discover if I am single minded (eliminate the subconscious saboteur) with every issue I want to address was powerful.  I now have a new tool in my tool belt! Thank you for sharing your passion and your gifts.”

Once we learn to connect with our true selves, and utilize that part of our brain called the Cortex, there is nothing that can hold you back.

Kathie and I will be representing this class this fall, but in the meantime you can give yourself the gift of a new life, in which you can experience, increased self worth and esteem, you will easily eliminate phobias, stress, fears, and anxiety. You will free yourself from addiction to cigarettes. You will be able to eliminate chemical dependency issues, and you will be able to create and live the life your dreams.

Hypnosis and Chemical Dependency

Part One

What if you could stop the use of addictive substances swiftly, easily, and with minimal effort? What if you could learn how to gain the same good feelings, and stress relieving benefits that you get when you indulge in your favorite substance or compulsive behavior?

This Saturday, June 26 I, and a fellow hypnotherapist, Kathie Brodie, are leading the first of a class called Emotional Release Therapy, and although the title suggests that it is just about a hypnotic technique designed to help clients detach from negative and fear based emotions that keep them stuck in old patterns and behaviors, it is much more than that. It is in fact a class that teaches a technique I refined during my work in outpatient chemical dependency treatment centers, helping clients have amazing success with their recovery issues while working within the context of chemical dependency counseling, and adding the power of clinical hypnotherapy.

You see I have worked in outpatient chemical dependency  for a little over twenty years, and while I have had the opportunity to use and practice the skills of the various concepts of chemical dependency counseling, helping people to create and live a life of sobriety, in both the outpatient chemical dependency arena, and the inpatient chemical dependency treatment arena, better known to those in the field as residential treatment centers, I have also had the opportunity to learn and use hypnosis and chemical dependency counseling in tandem.

As an example, a recent client had come to me with a complaint of addiction to alcohol. Oxiconten and nicotine.  I  spent the first session performing the ASAM, (American Society of Addiction Medication), evaluation coupled with an evaluation geared more specifically toward nicotine and Mental Health issues, and came up with a program that included clinical hypnotherapy techniques, chemical dependency counseling,  daily self hypnosis exercises,  off site support, (not specifically 12 step support, but if the client so chooses,  that type of support is encouraged and honored),  and specifically Emotional Release Therapy to enhance outpatient chemical dependency counseling.  I am happy to report that the client has not used in over three weeks, and is actively pursuing their goals in a number of arenas such as increased employment, and healthier relationships.

I worked for years in treatment centers that demanded strict adherence to traditional concepts of chemical dependency counseling.  Treatment centers that produced cookie cutter treatment plans that did not take into account the personality, the strengths, and the weaknesses of the clients that they were serving. Instead of immediately sending a person off to residential treatment, or simply assuming long held beliefs regarding all of the various issues that the client brings into the treatment center I wanted to work in a place where the client is given solid chemical dependency counseling, and shown how to enhance their own strengths and how to manage or eliminate old negative beliefs and behaviors through the use of clinical hypnotherapy, and the power of hypnosis, and self hypnosis.

While working in the field I was introduced to the power of Mindfulness as taught to clients in an outpatient chemical dependency treatment program that started and continue at the University of Washington.  Adding to these powerful Mindfulness treatment concepts I teach and utilize clinical hypnotherapy that accelerates a client’s progress so that they do not get stuck in months and months of traditional outpatient or inpatient treatment programs.

Many clients are leery about traditional chemical dependency treatment, whether it is residential treatment or outpatient treatment.  They have expressed fears and concerns re: getting stuck in months and months of focus upon the issues, instead of swift and powerful techniques that focus on the solutions.

Unleash the Power of Subconscious Mind through The Power of Attention with Foundations Hypnosis Seattle ~ Lynnwood ~ Everett

How many times do you receive invitations to learn how to make your dreams come true through the power known as “The Law of Attraction”?  It seems like everyone has jumped on the bandwagon, and are now making claims that amount to the promises that if you simply think positive thoughts, and repeat daily affirmations, the riches of the universe will be delivered to your door.

If this is the case why are there so many people living in a state of lack, and feeling so much stress, and anxiety, that they are unable to sleep at night, or turning to all manner of substances and behaviors  that are causing them such negative consequences, that they feel like their lives are falling apart.

There is an answer, but it is not always the answer that so many people are promised.  You can use the tremendous power of your mind to create the Life You Want, the Life You Were born to Experience, but YOU must take personal responsibility for the Life You already have.

When you wake up in the morning, what is the first thought(s) that come to mind? Do you groan, and say to yourself, “oh god another day to get through”, or do take a deep breath, and thank the universe for another night of rest and comfort in your warm bed?

What we put our attention on is what we continue to perceive in our lives.  When we focus on the negative, stressful, events and issues in our lives, we are going to continue to experience everything that comes to us in a negative and stressful way.

Several years ago, when I was an avid scuba diver, I could not go out to anywhere, the supermarket, gas station, coffee shop, etc., without running into at least 3 or 4 scuba divers a week. Once I curtailed my own scuba diving activities, and my mind was not as focused on this subject, I stopped running into other scuba divers on a regular basis. Now the question is, was I magically attracting these scuba divers into my life, or was I focused so much on something I loved, that I was recognizing others who shared this same passion? Either way the result was the same, but the message underneath is much more profound.  WHAT WE PUT OUR ATTENTION ON, INCREASES IN OUR LIVES!!!!!

If you spend your day(s) complaining and focusing on everything that you dislike, or don’t want, then this is what you are going to keep getting in your life. You won’t have the ability to see the good things when they are staring you in the face.

To shift your attention, and start to experience the good that is front of you each day, you must let go of the negative energy of the past. The quickest and most powerful way of doing this is through Self Hypnosis, Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, and Emotional Release Therapy.

Within just a few short sessions of Foundations Hypnosis Seattle ~ Lynnwood ~ Everett, you will learn how to switch your emotional, vibrational, patterns, from those that guarantee that you constantly struggle to those that guarantee  the experience of pleasure, abundance, increased self worth, elimination of addictive and compulsive behaviors, and the ability to ACTUALLY enjoy the type of life that you have always fantasized about, dreamed about, and wanted.

It is up to you, THE POWER is within you; learn simple basic techniques to unleash this power.  You may not become the next Bill Gates or Warren Buffet, but you will learn how to increase the joy, the abundance and the pleasure in your life.

Foundations Hypnosis ~ Lynnwood the Most Powerful Reason to Use It, IT WORKS!!!

Did you know that Foundation Hypnosis Lynnwood ~ Shoreline ~ Everett teaches the Most Powerful Tool For training the Mind. I recently had a client come to see me who had bought two sessions of Hypnosis with Foundations Hypnosis Seattle ~ Everett, through a charity auction with Three Dollar Bill Cinema.  He had said that he was not sure what he expected but knew that he had some various issues that he hoped Hypnosis would help him with.

As I explained the basic Law of Hypnosis, whenever your conscious and subconscious are in conflict, your subconscious invariable wins, his eyes lit up, and I could see that his mind was working hard on viewing images and messages that he wanted to formulate into a working plan.

One of the things that he asked was whether Hypnosis could actually heal physical pain or trauma? I explained that many years ago, I had been hit by a car that was traveling at forty miles an hour.  It was the first time that I had ever gone jogging, and due to my lack of hearing in my right ear, I jigged when I should have jagged. I was hit full on by this massive chariot, and slammed into the windshield, thrown through the air by several yards, and when I hit the concrete pavement, I was in a state of shock, but none the less I remained awake and aware through the entire ordeal. In fact I received a broke right shoulder from the impact against the windshield, and after just four hours in the local hospital I was sent home.  The Drs., and the police said that I should have been dead, but because I immediately relaxed and went into an altered state of consciousness as soon as I felt the car hit me, I was able to ride out the energy of the impact, and easily survive. The Mind, I told him, defiantly controls the body.

Over the years I have worked with people who have tremendous and long term back issues and pain. With the power of their own thoughts and their own mental attitudes as a tool in their arsenal, they have been able to release the pain and discomfort  that they once dealt with on a daily basis.

I have worked with clients with long term, chronic health conditions, such as cancer, HIV, and AIDS, and these people have found that their own mental attitudes and beliefs are able to create changes that allow them to either manage or eliminate symptoms of these issues all together.

Our number one health concern in this country is Stress, with just the use of self hypnosis, hypnotherapy, and Foundations, Emotional Release Therapy, I have witnessed people recover from long term addictions to Drugs, Alcohol, Food, And all manner of Behaviors.  I have also witnessed people who have been unable to maintain a good night’s sleep, find themselves sleeping soundly and consistently throughout the night.

Not to mention the fact that I have worked with clients who have reduced their recovery time from surgeries by half or more just from learning the tools and skills provided by exercises taught when you attend sessions at Foundations Hypnosis Lynnwood.

Hypnosis ~ Addictions in Seattle ~ Lynnwood ~ Everett

One of the most frequent request that I receive from potential clients is help with obsessive compulsive behaviors or addictions. This can and does include, stop smoking, alcohol, and drug abuse / addiction, eating addiction, and some form of behavioral issues such as sexual addiction or performance anxiety.

Hypnosis is not a magic bullet, it will not magically cure any condition or eliminate any behavior, but it what it will do is increase your own ability to eliminate or manage any issue or condition that you are trying to deal with.

One of the most well known hypnotists of the twentieth century was Dr. Milton Erickson. He often told clients that “you have tried to solve the problem at the conscious level of your mind, and have failed miserable, now it is time to resolve the issue at the subconscious level of your mind”.  Dr. Erickson’s statement is based on the fact that there is a well known rule of the mind called the law of conflict. When the subconscious and the conscious portions of the mind are in conflict, your subconscious will always win. This fact has been proven over and over again by smokers who try to quit smoking without outside help, or substance abusers who can’t quit by just will power alone.  Along with these common addictions there are dieters who can’t seem to lose weight, or people who are frozen by the fear of public speaking, or people who suffer from performance anxiety while engaging in the sexual act. (Just look at the sales figures of such drugs as Viagra to get an idea of how prevalent these issues are).

People are paying millions of dollars a year on prescription medications to help them alleviate their obsessions, addictions and compulsions, and yet the problems persist.

The American Medical Association, and the American Psychological Association recognized hypnotism as a valid medical procedure in the year 1958, and in the year 1995 the National Institute of Health recommended hypnotherapy as a treatment for chronic pain, both physical and emotional.

Hypnotherapy is an effective tool in reducing the fear and anxiety that accompany pain and uncomfortable medical or dental procedures, and has also proven very effective at eliminating the root causes of stress and anxiety associated with a variety of behavioral issues such as substance use, sleep walking, nail biting, smoking cigarettes, eating disorders, phobias, and even thumb sucking.

Don’t Delay, cakk for your first session now, and start living the life you have always dreamed of. Foundations Hypnosis and Chemical Dependency Seattle ~ Lynnwood ~ Everett (206) 417-4900

Hypnosis to Relieve Stress & Anxiety in North Seattle ~ Lynnwood

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

DLScott CH.t. / CDP / AASD

Foundations Hypnosis Lynnwood ~ Everett teaches you how to master your thoughts and emotions, to help relieve stress and anxiety.  When a client calls me seeking help with some issue in their life, they usually start the conversation with a complaint about what is holding them back, i.e., “I need to build self worth, I need to find a better job, I need to relieve feelings of stress, I need to lose weight, I need to stop using drugs, or alcohol, etc., etc., etc., “.

What do you think would make your life better?  Do think if you had more money, or a better job, or better relationship, or more possessions, or a million other things that you are constantly told would make you happy, do you think that this would make things better?

How many of you reading this have heard about or read about some movie star who has fame and fortune, and all of the things that are suppose to make a person happy, and yet they are suffering, unhappy, addicted to drugs or alcohol, or constantly battling weight issues. How can this be? Why didn’t the fame and fortune bring them the happiness that they were promised?

The answer lies in our subconscious program. We have been raised to believe that we are our thoughts; we are our images, and our memories. This is not true at all. All of the thoughts and images we have in our minds, are simply the things that we have been given throughout our lives by our parents, our teachers, our churches, our government, our media, etc., etc.,  etc.  These thoughts and images are our made up agreements about our life. We have developed an inner judge who constantly deems us as unworthy, and we have developed an inner victim who carries out the judgment that our inner judge has handed to us.  Think about that, what kind of self talk to do you engage in? If you had a friend who talked to you the way that you talk to yourself, how long would you remain friends with that person?

With these beliefs and ideas, we constantly stress out over guilt, worry, and anxiety,  that we are not good enough, that we are never going to have what we need to be happy.  We block ourselves from looking inside, and discovering the true power and wealth that exist there.

I have clients who have come to me because of old images of failures and abuses that keep them stuck in the same patterns over and over again.

Within a few short sessions they learn to detach from these emotional stresses and anxieties. They let go of old useless ideas and agreements that have kept them from moving ahead in life. They literally let go of the inner judge, and the inner victim, (stress and anxiety), and they learn how to appreciate the things that they have in their lives, actually feeling more peaceful, and more worthy. When they start to develop those feelings, they begin to attract the things into their lives that make them happy, and complete. Things like self worth, control or elimination of anxiety, anger, obsessive compulsive behaviors, and participation in the career of their choice. Their entire world begins to change and they actually begin to experience the life they want instead of the life they dread.

Why not give yourself the opportunity to move ahead, move past the guilt, the anxiety, and worry of the past. Let go of the stress, and embrace your inner power and strength.  As one successful client reported at the end of his treatment:

If you want to change your mind, you don’t need persuasion; you need
practice. DL Scott can teach you how to practice.”
–A.K. Jones.
