Hypnosis Certifications CDP / AASD

October 15th, 2010

DLScott CH.t . CDP / AASD

Seems like every time I turn around I get asked the question, what is the difference between a hypnotist, and a hypnotherapist? Or in a similar vein, how do you get certified by the stated to be a counselor or a hypnotherapist?

These are all very good questions, and ones that you should be asking a perspective counselor when you are seeking the services of a therapist or counselor. To answer the first question, the answer varies from state to state. In Washington a Hypnotist can and often does claim the title of Hypnotherapist, but just because Washington State allows a person to call themselves a Hypnotherapist, does not mean that the person has any certification from a state board of examination towards that title.

Washington State does not certify Hypnotists or Hypnotherapists. What it does is it registers Hypnotists or Hypnotherapists based on their completion of a certified training group or school, in the hypnotic arts, (see my previous blog for the names of various schools). As far as I am aware, the letters behind my name, CH.t., stand for Clinical Hypnotherapist, although I actually did attend The

Northwest School for Clinical Hypnotherapy, back in the late eighties, and received my certification through them as a accredited hypnosis school in the state of Washington.. If someone you are seeking the services of, claims to be a Certified Hypnotist or Hypnotherapist, then they probably are, but you might want to ask the name of the school that they went to receive that certification. You may also notice that sometimes I use the title of Certified Time Line Therapy Practitioner, or Certified NLP Practitioner, a certification that was conferred upon me by the Northwest Institute of NLP. I may be prejudiced, but I believe that anyone who is going to practice in the field of Mental Health, Hypnosis, Chemical Dependency, or Psychiatry, should at least attend one or more accredited schools, complete the courses, and obtain an actual certification.

When someone claims to be a Certified Counselor, you might approach with caution. Counselors are not certified. To be a counselor use to just take an application, a few dollars, and poof, you have a registered counselor status. Recently the laws have been changing, and now, if I am not mistaken you must get your counselor registration, but to receive that registration you have to be involved in some approved certification course, such as a hypnosis school, or some other discipline such Mental Health, or Chemical Dependency.

Back in the past, when I first gained my certification as a Chemical Dependency Professional, CDP, you only needed to take a series of college courses which amounted to about eight months worth of a commitment. I did, back then, what is required of CDPs today, I spent the extra time to receive my college degree in the Social and Human Services field, the letters AASD stand for Associate of Applied Science Degree. Chemical Dependency Professionals are Certified through a state board, and as a CDP, I am obliged to follow certain guidelines, which include accumulating continuing education credits every year to make sure that I stay current in my chosen field.

I recognize that this blog was full of a lot of details, but the bottom line is this. When you are seeking the services of a CH.t. CDP, AASD, PH.d. MHT. (Mental Health Therapist), or a Certified NLP Practitioner, then please remember that not all of these certifications are granted by the state, but any counselor who is really serious about his or her craft, is going to make sure that they receive quality training from a professional school that is recognized and certified by the state to teach.

If you would like more information, or are in need of a certified, qualified Hypnotherapist, and Chemical Dependency Proffesional, then visit my website, Foundations Hypnosis Seattle, or CALL NOW 206-417-4900.

Some of the best Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy training books

October 7th, 2010

DLScott CH.t / CDP / AASD

One of my passions is to read. I love to read books of all sorts, topics, and genres, but I especially love to read books about healing and Hypnosis. On my website, I recommend the following books

Some of my clients have asked about books that they can read as training books that will show them how to hypnotize themselves, so they can eliminate or manage certain issues or behaviors, and although I know that many people may believe that a how to book on Hypnosis will allow them to take control of their symptoms, I recommend the above books, because all of them can help you get to the core of many issues.

You will notice that the in this list there is no mention of Hypnotherapy training books, or Amazon training books, or even best Hypnosis, but I can assure you that if you want to learn how to alter your state of consciousness, take control of your subconscious thoughts and feelings, then these books get to the heart of matter, and in a very effective way.

I especially recommend Trances People Live, by Stephan Wolinski. It is one of the best books on Mindfulness, and letting go of inappropriate thoughts and behaviors. Throughout the book Dr. Wolinski gives exercises and techniques, that I have personally used for years, and have adapted them for my own clients.

When you are seeking to understand where your deepest beliefs and agreements came from, and are looking for a way of changing those deepest held beliefs, and agreements, then I highly recommend The Four Agreements. (Ask any of a number of recovering Crystal Meth Addicts how this book has changed their lives).

Sometimes just learning the technique from a Hypnotherapy training book is not going to help with the deeper issues that keep you stuck. That is why I recommend that you click on any one of the books in the above list, and enhance your journey to health and healing.

If you are wanting to know more about this powerful life altering experience, if you are dealing with emotional stress, and behavioral issues that have you kept stuck, then don’t delay, call Foundations Hypnosis Seattle ~ Everett at (206) 417-4900 today. http://dlscottpersonalenergymastery.com/links-and-resources/

How to Hypnotize Someone

October 5th, 2010

DLScott CH.t. / AASD / CDP

Someone once asked me if it was hard to hypnotize someone? With a grin I told the person that the hard part is not hypnotizing someone, the hard part is in getting someone to stop hypnotizing themselves.

On the door to my studio, where I see clients as a professional hypnotist, I have a sign that says, Think You Can, Think You Can’t, Either Way You are Right, Hypnotherapy Works. With these words, one the major reason that people seek out counseling, either from a professional hypnotist, or a mental health counselor, is completely explained.

When a client types in the words, hypnotist Seattle, self hypnosis, or learn how to hypnotize, in a word search, they are generally hoping to find a hypnotherapist in Seattle who can do two things, put them into a state of hypnosis, and teach them how to perform self hypnosis on themselves. If the Seattle Hypnotherapist or Seattle Hypnotist is unwilling to learn how to hypnotize, then you may want to continue to look for one who is willing to teach the appropriate use of this highly effective tool.

When I work with a client at Foundations Hypnosis I do both. I guide them into a state of hypnosis to help them become familiar with the trance state, and to help imprint positive suggestions and positive images that will help alleviate or eliminate the issue or concern that brought them into my office; which could include smoking cessation, phobias, anger management, self confidence, sleeping enhancement, and a host of other complaints.

The idea of helping a client become familiar with the hypnotic or trance state will help when I give them instructions in an effective and conscious method of self hypnosis, and I want them to learn how to hypnotize easily and effortlessly, so then can incorporate this practice in their daily life, just as I have done for most of my life.

As I mentioned before, we put ourselves into the hypnotic state without any conscious effort, on a constant basis. I want my clients to be able to leave my office with the ability to hypnotize themselves and gain control over their own behaviors without having to constantly relay on my help in reaching that state.

The method is easy, usually consisting of 4 to 5 steps, but teaching a client how to do this, is a very important part of any good clinical practice of a professional hypnotist.

If you are wanting to know more about his powerful life altering experience, if you are dealing with emotional stress, and behavioral that have kept you stuck, then don’t delay, call Foundations Hypnosis Seattle Everett at 92060417-4900 today. Everett counseling therapist and North Seattle Hypnotherapy )

The Importance of Teaching Self Hypnosis

September 30th, 2010

DLScott CH.t. / CDP / AASD

One of the most important things that I can do for my clients is to teach them the best possible way to utilize self hypnotic techniques.

A friend once asked me if it was hard to hypnotize someone. After giving it some thought, what I told my friend was that it is not hard to hypnotize anyone; it is hard to get someone to stop hypnotizing themselves. You see, I believe that we spend most of our waking moments in some form of trance, or hypnosis. Whether we believe that we can, or whether we believe that we cannot, it is true. In other words, whatever you think, and whatever you believe, becomes your truth.

People come to me for all sorts of issues, smoking cessation, pain management, weight control, phobias, fears, obsessive compulsive behaviors, low self worth, and low self esteem issues, just to name a few. The Mission Statement of Foundations Hypnosis Seattle http://dlscottpersonalenergymastery.com is: To Provide Clients with the tools and skills necessary to make positive life affirming changes. Having worked in the field of Mental Health and Chemical Dependency for the last two decades in the Seattle, Everett, and greater King County area, , I have witnessed many counselors working with their clients for that many years, constantly fostering the idea that they need to continue to see the provider because only the provider has the knowledge and information that will allow them to continue to make changes in their lives.

Breaking this belief system, and teaching clients skills and tools to help themselves and not have to depend upon the constant guidance of their therapist, is why I choose to do most of my work in the field of Hypnotherapy.

While it is true that all Hypnosis is actually, Self Hypnosis, it is still very important for client out comes, and continued success in the life of the client, that I, as a Certified Hypnotherapist am able to teach a client how to make choices about their behavior, and their beliefs. Teaching my clients very effective and easy, methods of self – hypnosis, and specific tools that help clients maintain a state of mindfulness, I have helped create ways for my clients to break old habits, and create new prosperous life circumstances for themselves. Within a short span of anywhere from 2 to 4 to 6 sessions, dependent upon the presenting issue, I have witnessed clients increase make incredible changes, and upon later conversations, I have found that those changes continue and increase when the client or former client incorporates their own regular practice of the self hypnotic skills learned through Foundations Hypnosis Seattle Lynnwood Everett.

If you are wanting to know more about this powerful life altering experience, if you are dealing with emotional stress, and behavioral issues that have kept you stuck, then DON”T DELAY, call for your first session now, and start living the life you have always dreamed of. Foundations Hypnosis and Chemical Dependency Seattle~Lynnwood~Everett, (206) 417-4900. http://dlscottpersonalenergymastery.com/

The Art of Letting Go and Forgiving Foundations Hypnosis Seattle ~ Everett

September 24th, 2010

DLScott CH.t. / CDP / AASD
I was recently working with a client, using my services as a Seattle Hypnotherapist, and counselor, at a conference for recovering addicts and abusers. After one particularly case, I was elated at the response from the client. He had been dealing with the after effects of sexual abuse he had received from an older teenage boy in the neighbor where he grew up, since he was about 9 years old.

The older boy use to hold bible classes with him, the subject was almost always about the sins of man, and how the SNAKE would always trick and seduce him. The the older boy always used his own snake to embelish the lesson, and the young man put up with it until he was old enough to leave home. The man had spent much of his adult life trying to drown out the feelings with various drugs, and repeated sexual encounters where he recreated the same situations in which he could continue to prove to himself that he deserved the humilation, abuse, and pain that the older boy had inflicted upon him. The continued drug induced sexual encounters eventually lead to a diagnosis of HIV / AIDS.

As I explained to the man, who was having trouble even sitting in the room alone with another male, this was not intended to be a magic cure, or intended to replace any other therapy that he was encountering. What the process was intending to do was to help him let go of the extreme emotional response that he was experiencing due to the memories he carried with him.

The story was not an uncommon one, the man grew up with a great deal of guilt and shame heaped upon him due to the fact that he was gay, but he also grew up carrying around the guilt and shame of a continuous sexual relationship with this older boy that my client felt he felt was his responsiblity and his fault, because in someway he knew that he was different from other boys, even at the young age of 9, and it was because he was different that the older boy had sought him out and used him for sexual services.

Please be aware that this situation could have just as easily been between a young girl and an older boy, and it would have been just as devestating, (in fact I have worked with clients under those circumstances), but this particular case had the added peice that the young man had already been taught by society that his own feelings for his same gender made him less than, and in someway unclean, and worthy of the abuse.

As a seattle hypnotherapist, and emotionl release therapy specialist, (working a lot in the gay and lesbian community), I have found that by using hypnosis and emotional release therapy to help in the forgiveness process, my clients are able to let go of deeply held feelings of shame, and guilt that have kept them stuck with feelings of low self worth, low self esteem, and often times issues of chemical addiction or abuse.

Working as clinical coordinator for Project NEON, a Public Health funded program in King County, located in Seattle Wa., for over nine years, I have been able to develop many tools and skills that help gay and lesbian community members break through issues of internalized homophobia, and learn to accept who they are without the shame and guilt.

At the end of the session with the above client he was smiling and told me that this was the first time in many, many, years that he could actually breath easily while sitting in a room with another male. I explained to him that this was due to the nature of the hypnotic induction, and the fact that he had been able to let go of traumatic emotional baggage through the application of emotional release therapy.

Many people have trouble with the whole idea of forgiveness. They believe that to forgive someone for what they have done, is like letting the person off of the hook for their behavior. In truth the act of forgiving, is not about the other person, but it is about “giving up all hope of having a better past”. When you are able to really forgive someone, you will find that you are able to lift a big weight off of your own shoulders. You can, as my client said, breath again for the first time in many years.

Using hynosis, when applied by a qualified Hypnotist / Hypnotherapist, and state cerified counselor, can and does speed up the process, making it easier, and sometimes more long lasting. As an emotional release therapist, I can assure that this is true as I have witnessed this with many of my clients.

Seattle Hypnotherapist Counselor – DL Scott

September 21st, 2010

DLScott CH.t. / CDP / AASD

Welcome back, a friend of mine told me, as I arrived back from a two week retreat / vacation, on Cortes Island in British Columbia.

Things never really turn out exactly the way that you expect, and this vacation did not turn out as I expected. First off I had not expected to learn as much about myself as I have, and second off I never expected to learn as much about my counseling and hypnotherapist agency as I did.

Upon return from my vacation I opened up my e-mail and everything that I had been experiencing and learning was contained in the following e-mail:

I know you’ve never heard this before, but you were RIGHT!! All the worry, stress, freaking myself out and falling into the deep Hole of Dispair and depression over an unknown factor in my Future…. with the Demons controlling my thoughts, though I should have been concentrating on the present moment fighting with Positive Thoughts, Self- Confidence and Keeping those Damaging influences at bay!!
In my defense, and considering what I still feel my vulnerable personality , being down to less than $20. to my name and uncertain as to my continued U.I. and convinced that I had NO place to turn….
As it ultimately turned out, a relative came through with $1000, AND the next day my paperwork and check and 15 week extension of Benefits arrived in the mail…
So, sorry to ramble on like this , but I felt I needed to explain to someone! Thank you for your concern and your Help in facing similar situations in the Future!
As it turns out, I’m almost Giddy at the moment about the way it DID turn out, but I know I probably did both further physical and mental damage
by the way I reacted to the situation…
So, I’ll let you go for now and Hope you have a Fantastic Vacation in every way possible!!!! Yours in Peace, xxxxxxxxxxxx

I have been in the field for about twenty years at this point in my career. I have clients who come to me for a variety of reasons, smoking cessation, drug addiction, self worth & self esteem, panic & anxiety, sleeping issues. pain management control, insomnia, gambling addiction, internalized homophobia, and coming out issues for the Gay and Lesbian community. When I first learned the art of hypnosis, I was trained in specific inductions, and techniques, that could help a client refocus or reprogram their minds. During all of that time as a Seattle Hypnotherapist, and Washington Certified Counselor, what have I found that works really well? What I have discovered over the years, is that clients don’t have to reprogram their minds, they simply need to be reminded that they don’t have to buy into every thought that is created or produced by the brain. They are actually the observer, the watcher, the Master of their thoughts.

I cannot repeat enough that a technique I use called Emotional Release Therapy, helps every single client let go of old lingering emotional wounds and traumas, while applying the techniques of Mindfulness, and Deep Clinical Hypnosis, provide very fast, and reliable changes in thoughts and emotions, that allow for permanent and lasting changing in the clients environment.

You see, we as a species do not create and live our lives from the outside in, but we do create and live our lives from the inside out. The outside world, our environment is a mirror of what we believe and have been taught about ourselves. According to one of my favorite writers, Don Miguel Ruiz, “The Four Agreements”, we have been domesticated / raised with certain beliefs that we have accepted and agreed to truth. The interesting thing is, that very few of these beliefs and agreements are true. We act as if every thought, every belief, that we have is absolutely the truth. When you come to Foundations Hypnosis, serving the greater King County area, and surrounding counties, you are taught that you are not your thoughts, you are not your feelings, you are not even really your body. You are something much more, you are the consciousness, the spirit, the soul, that inhabits that body, and it is your brain, (the most sophisticated computer in existence), that creates and produces 1000(s) of thoughts each day. Thoughts that we buy into, and believe to be true. Once you are able to become the observer or those thoughts, the watcher of the thoughts and emotions, that have ruled your life for years, you will be able to easily let go of anger, addictions, internalized phobias, fears, and insecurities that have kept you stuck for years.

Just listen to what one client said to me about how Foundations Hypnosis has helped him with his life long anger issues, issues that he had at one time been mandated to attend more traditional anger management classes:

“DL Scott, I just wanted to take a minute to tell you what you and Emotional Release Therapy have done for me. I know I still have a ways to go, but after just a few short weeks I feel more satisfaction and closer to reaching my goal than I ever did while spending almost two years in a traditional form of anger management. People in my life are already noticing the positive changes that I’m making and I’m beginning to feel myself getting closer to the ones I love. Thank you for the hope of happiness in my life.

Local North Seattle Hypnotherapy Clinic for Forgiveness

August 30th, 2010

DLScott CH.t. / CDP / AASD
The number one health issue in the United States is stress. Some stress in tiny amounts, is not the problem, what is the problem is prolonged Stress in large amounts. This Stress manifests as
          1- Muscular tension
          2- Increased blood pressure
3- Increased toxins in the body
4- Decreased ability to release toxins
          5- Dampened Immune system

One of the biggest reasons that stress is increasing in our society is because we have forgotten how to forgive and let go. In some of the oldest texts, tales, and stories in our culture, people were said to have lived to be over 900 years old. In the story of Noah, it was claimed that he built his ark when he was 600 years old, and then he died after the age of 900. Why is that? Why would people have lied about the age of someone like Noah? Consider, just consider, for a moment that it was not a lie. If it was true, then why did people back in the ancient past live so much longer than today? One answer may lie in their ability to let go of guilt, anger, and a host of other negative emotions through the act of forgiveness.

If you check out the number one reason for deaths in our society, you will find that most people die from heart trouble. The heart is one of the biggest muscles in the body, and putting constant stress on that muscle will cause it to weaken and eventually guilt working. The best and easiest way to get rid of stress is to learn how to forgive. The act of forgiveness helps let go of stress, guilt, and anger, and causes the one forgiving to feel better physically, mentally and according to many clients of north Seattle hypnotherapy, aka Foundations, will create greater feelings of confidence and well being. I have always believed that the first step in any effective one on one counseling is helping the client to let go of bottled up anger and stress, by teaching methods of forgiveness, at Foundations Hypnosis Seattle, you can get the full of effect of Emotional Release Therapy as taught and used by me, DL Scott.

Whether my clients are coming in to receive help with quitting smoking, or eliminating drugs and alcohol, enhancing sleep patterns, helping with pain management, or increasing self worth and esteem, first the client needs to look at what is happening with their own emotions and feelings. Seattle hypnotherapy, http://www.dlscottpersonalenergymastery.com/ helps the client to learn how to release old negative emotions locked in the tissues, muscles and cells of the body, by utilizing forgiveness counseling, counseling for guilt, confidence counseling, and counseling to feel better. Trying to work on just the specific symptom, without helping someone clear out old wounds, and old emotional trauma, is like putting a band aid on a gunshot wound. You need to clean the wound first and then start doing repair work. When DL Scott Seattle Hypnotherapist and Counselor works with clients it is with skills and tools that will create long lasting, life affirming changes that will help clients move ahead in their lives.

One of the most misunderstood acts that anyone can and actually will benefit greatly from doing is the act of forgiveness. If you are feeling stuck, if you are feeling as though everything is falling apart in your life, one of the best ways of moving ahead, and living the life you deserve is come to a Local Clinic that Cares, and learn the technique of one on one Forgiveness hypnotherapy counseling.

I am amazed at how few local hypnotherapist received training in this area. As the owner of a Local Seattle Hypnotherapy Clinic, I have recently met more and more counselors who are beginning to explore this valuable tool, and am so grateful that I am one of the most adamant forgiveness counselors in Seattle. Over the past twenty years I have received training in counseling for guilt, counseling to feel better, and specific symptom counseling, but one of the most effective and powerful things that any local hypnotherapist can do is, forgiveness counselor during their one on one counseling sessions.

Smoking Cessation MP3

August 24th, 2010

DL Scott CH.t. / CDP / AASD

As the old saying goes, there is more than one way to skin a cat. (Hmm-m-m makes you wonder where some of these old sayings actually came from).

I am currently working with three clients who are smoking cessation clients, (my practice is inclusive of many different client goals and client and issues, and smoking cessation is simply one aspect of what clients seek my services for), one client came in today and continued with the process of reinforcement. She has quit smoking for over two and one half days. Another client just started the process yesterday, and the third client is completing her sessions in two days although her quit date was officially yesterday. What do all of these clients have in common?

Well first off they decided to combine hypnosis and quitting smoking, and they all decided experience the entire DL Scott Smoking Cessation Program, http://dlscottpersonalenergymastery.com/foundations-smoking-cessation-program/which includes a unique detox program, cognitive behavioral therapeutic techniques based on chemical dependency counseling, which is part of what DL Scott provides his clients, and they all have the benefit of in person hypnosis to address cravings, urges, and stress relief techniques. Along with all of this they have the benefit of a personal copy of an mp3 smoking cessation download to use while they adjust to their quitting smoking.

You can find many cheap hypnosis smoking cessation mp3 downloads on the Internet, and some make claims that just by listening to the smoking cessation download you will be able to quit smoking in just a few short days.

The truth is that if you are going to buy a smoking cessaion mp3 please do some research on hypnosis and quitting smoking. I provide a unique four part in person program that is based on utilizing various tools, and techniques to help clients who are quitting smoking. I provide an entire program, because as I tell my clients, nothing can make you quit smoking, you have to want to quit, and then you need to decide what tools or program you are willing to try to accomplish your goals. There are great tools and techniques that can help you while quitting smoking, but the rule of thumb is that not just one tool is going to effectively get the job done. That would be like giving someone just a hammer and then asking them to go build a house. It takes an entire tool box full of great tools to get the job done.

The smoking cessation mp3, that is provided by Foundations DL Scott, is one of the best tools that you will have in your tool box, but it is not the only tool that you should have. I have discovered over the years that the most successful quitting smoking program includes both hypnosis, and cognitive behavioral therapy, which is why when you buy a stop smoking CD from . http://dlscottpersonalenergymastery.com/products-page/you will receive the same booklet of instructions that my clients get when they participate in the in person smoking cessation program with DL Scott, http://dlscottpersonalenergymastery.com/foundations-smoking-cessation-program/

If you are ready to quit smoking, and you have made that final decision, nothing is going to stop you from accomplishing your goal. You need to arm yourself with best tools and techniques to make your smoking cessation program a success. http://dlscottpersonalenergymastery.com/products-page

The Psychology of Hypnosis while listening to MP3

August 22nd, 2010

So if mp3 downloads work so well, why should people bother with going to see a hypnotherapist?

The answer lies in fact that as good as mp3 downloads are, you are actually only experiencing part of the process when you listen to you hypnosis mp3. http://dlscottpersonalenergymastery.com/products-page/

When I have a client come to see me for hypnotic sessions, they usually spend about an hour to an hour and one half with me in the studio. We talk about the presenting issue, such as anxiety, depression, smoking cessation, weight loss, self worth, self esteem, or sleeping problems, such as insominia. I am a trained counselor with over twenty years in the field. As a client who has elected for in person hypnosis, you will not only recieve in person hypnosis, but you will also recieve a full evaluation, and mental health counseling which will include such things as mindfulness techniques specifically targeting your own own lifestlye, stress relief, cognitive behavioral therapy suggestions, and a complete explanation of the process.

Along with your own ability to explore ideas and views of your issue, that you may not have thought of before the session, you will have the expert advice and skills of a trained therapist to help you on your journey.

Now does this mean that hypnosis mp3 downloads are inferior and won’t work for you? Absolutely not! Hypnosis mp3 downloads are a powerful tool that will allow you to go into a deeply meditative state, and change your thinking process at the level of your subconscious, thus allowing you to shift old beliefs, images, and life long patterns of behavior that have kept you stuck in some areas of your life, http://dlscottpersonalenergymastery.com/products-page/ .

For some people, going into a hypnotic state is harder; at first; when they feel they are being watched. Being introduced into this state with a hypnosis mp3 download in the quiet and comfort of your home is just the thing they need to break through this psychological barrier. If you are thinking of experiencing a life changing event, and you are ready to develop a program that includes using hypnosis, then please check out Foundation Hypnosis Seattle to find the hypnosis mp3 download that is just right for you. http://www.dlscottpersonalenergymastery.com/
