Treating Addictions with Hypnosis

DLScott CHt. / CDP / AASD

Welcome back. It has been a busy couple of months here in North Seattle, and I have been kept very busy, using my skills and talents working in the field of mental health and substance abuse, trying to learn new ways of helping people over come major issues in their lives, and helping them find new avenues to achieve their goals, hopes, and dreams. I have learned some new ideas, and have had old ideas reaffirmed, and am still utilizing these ideas in the best way possible to create the best new hypnotic treatments and cutting edge Mental Health, and Substance Addiction treatments for my clients. As always my work and research keep coming back to my passion, the field of substance abuse, and hypnosis.

Drugs and compulsive behaviors are an emotional anesthetic, an antidote to a frightful feeling of emptiness. While hypnosis and NLP can not promise a cure for the desease model of chemical dependency, it does provide a way to detach from emotional issues that keep pulling a person back to their compulsive behaviors, and addictions, (whether that be nicotine, alcohol, stimulants, or depressants), in spite of the consequences to your health, your relationships, and your job. Foundation Hypnosis and NLP, North Seattle, helps you to uncover the demons that have been plaguing you and causing you to relay on unhealthy habits, and behaviors, and teaches you new behaviors, and new skills, to help you move ahead in life, and achieve your goals and dreams.

Ask yourself this question: if my compulsive behavior is causing me problems with relationships, my job, and my health, why do I keep chosen to repeat the same action over and over again, and expect a different result? We are creatures of habit. Think about that, we have daily routines, and daily habits, that we have been performing for years, without given it a second thought.

When you wake up in the morning you stumble out of bed, hop in the shower, grab a cup of coffee, turn on the news, get dressed, and quickly head out the door. You don’t have to think about it, it just comes automatically, and without any conscious thought. After several repetitions, your subconscious accepts the new programming, and takes control. In fact that habit becomes so ingrained, so powerful, that you actually feel a sensation of stress and anxiety if you don’t perform the programmed behavior.

The same is true of your other habits and other behaviors. Whether it be smoking, drinking, procrastination, inpatients, angry outbursts, gambling, compulsive behaviors such as eating, smoking, negative thinking, worry, judgments, and taking things personal, they are all pretty automatic, and seemingly impossible to stop.

Hypnosis works by implanting new healthy habits into your subconscious, but before it can do that it is important to clear out the emotions attached to old memories, and images. It is a lot like preparing the soil when you plant new seeds. You want to get rid of the weeds, and debris that have kept the seeds from taking hold.

From the very first session, Foundations Hypnosis and NLP of North Seattle, Shoreline, and Everett, utilizes a unique therapeutic tool called Emotional Release Therapy, that reduces and eliminates anxiety, and stress. The client is also taught easy methods of self hypnosis, and mindfulness that clean up the old feelings of low self worth, low self esteem, negativity, and emotional trauma, in much the same way that you have to clean and fertilize the soil before you start planting new seeds. At the second session, the client is then ready to have new strong, positive, healthy behaviors implanted into the subconscious level of their brain.

Just listen to what one recent client had to say:

“After just the first session I found myself able to focus on my school work, finish projects that I would have normally put off tell the last minute, and find time to actually relax and enjoy myself without the stress and worry of things undone. On top of all of that I am able to get rid of headaches by just practicing my daily exercises, and listening to the hypnotic CD(s) provided as a part of the service. Thanks Foundations, I feel great”
A.M. Seattle Wa, University Student.

The Power of Hypnosis and How It Can Change Your Life

Saturday, March 26th, 2011

By DLScott CDP / NLP / CDP

It seems like a long time since I last wrote a blog for this website, and in reality it has been a while.

I have taken a break as I explore more skills, tools, and techniques to help my clients obtain their goals. What I have learned during these last few weeks is that by focusing on the tools of Self Hypnosis, Mindfulness, and Emotional Release Therapy, I believe that Foundations Hypnosis Seattle – Everett – Bellevue, has been made even stronger.

While I have continued to explore specific techiques and hypnotic inductions, what I keep coming back to is the idea of Mindfulness and NLP, (Neuro Linguistic Programming), and Emotional Release Therapy.

Over the years I have worked within the field of social and human services, such as my current work  in both the Hypnosis field, and the Chemical Dependency field with a state funded agency. In both of these areas I have focused on the tools of Hypnosis / Mindfulness Emotional Release Therapy, and Dialetic Behavioral Therapy. Combining these clinical proven techniques has proven effective and powerful in helping my clients reduce or eliminate a wide variety of issues, and complaints, such as Anxiety, Phobias, Substance Abuse and Addiction, Sleep Disturbances, Personality Disorders, Pain Management, Nicotine Addiction, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorders. While I would never claim that Hypnosis, and Mindfulness are cures all for all issues, nor would I claim the Emotional Release Therapy Technique used and taught by Foundations Hypnosis North Seattle – Lynnwood – Shoreline, I will state that learning these techniques and employing these techniques will drastically reduce or eliminate effects of the above mentioned issues, plus a lot more.

With Foundations Hypnosis Seattle – Bellevue, you will learn techniqes, including self hypnosis, emotional release therapy, NLP, and mindfulness  that allow you to detach from the stress and trauma assoicated with old memories, images, and programming that we carry around with us all the time.

Within a matter of one session you will be able to dramatically change feelings, and emotions that have kept you stuck in old behaviors, and old patterns for years.

Think about that, when you begin to view old images and memories of traumatic events and situations in your life, those images, memories cause your body to be flooded with effects of stress, e.g. muscle tension, high blood pressure, shortness of breath, and other feelings that make up what are generally known as the fight or flight response.  Take just a moment to recall a recent event, such as an argument with your partner, loss of a loved one, perhaps a fight with your boss. Really allow yourself to bring that image into your consciousness very clearly, notice the colors, the sounds, the details of the image. Now notice the effects that this image has on your body.

Now think of that same image, only change it some way. Make it less clear, make it faded out, add silly music to it. Now notice the effects that this image has on your body. You will notice that the image no longer is stressful or as frightening as before. You have just learned an important concept of NLP, (Neuro Linguistic Programming), when you change the coding of a memory or image in your brain, the image no longer has the same impact.

This is just one of the amazing things that you can do by learning to utilize the power of your brain, through techniqes taught by Foundations Hypnosis Seattle.

When you add this too the techniques of Mindfulness, and Emotional Release Therapy, you will discovery that things you once thought of as insurmontable issues or problems, will seem to just begin to

fade from your life.

If you want to experience fast, powerful, and lasting resulting, CALL NOW, (206) 417-4900 Foundations Hypnosis Seattle – North Seattle – Shoreline, or contact me by taking the brief survey on this website.  You will be glad that you did.

North Seattle Counseling Services

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

DLScott CH.t. / CDP / AASD

What makes Foundations Hypnosis and Counseling Services different than other therapies?  It is a fair question and one that I would hope that people are asking of any Therapist, Counselor, or Hypnotherapist, before they decide to enlist their services as a provided. Along with the fact that many people are concerned about location, (Foundations is located in the north end of Seattle, near Northgate, Haller Lake, Maple Leaf, Mountlake, and Lake City), and people are also concerned with the style and type of therapy that their Therapist or Hypnotherapist is involved in. At Foundations North Seattle Counseling Services, you will be given both the best in Hypnotherapy, and in cutting edge Chemical Dependency Counseling techniques.

As those of you who have experienced Foundations North Seattle Counseling know, this therapy involves a technique called Emotional Release Therapy.  This technique relies upon the ability of the therapist to  get the conscious portion of the mind to drop down into the deepest level of alpha brain wave frequency, (between 8 and 14 cycles per second), in a very quick fashion.  By doing this your subconscious mind will start cleaning up the effects of stress on body cells and tissues, and also help a person unattach from traumatic memories and images that have been creating problems in the area of self worth, self esteem, addictions, phobias, anxieties, prolonged stress effects, (such as though experienced with PTSD), weight retention issues, and chronic pain issues.

While it is true that you don’t have to know specific issues and images that are attached to those stress related effects, some clients feel safer and more empowered when they have specifics to work with, so it is and can be helpful to use some regression work such as age regression, and even past life regression to help a client work on a cognitive level making the Emotional Release Therapy even more effective.

Many clients come to Foundations North Seattle Counseling Services wanting to make sense of questions that they have surrounding spiritual matters.  As mentioned in my last blog, utilizing Hypnosis allows me to help a client safely and effectively explore those themes and ideas in their lives. It also allows a client to explore these ideas while looking at, and working on a  bigger picture of mental, emotional, and physical issues and ideas.

If you feel that this type of counseling is right for you, then CALL NOW!!!!! (206)417-4900. Foundations Hypnosis Seattle ~ Lynnwood ~ Everett is located just minutes off of I-5, about fifteen minutes from Downtown Seattle.

Addressing Feelings’ of Shame and Guilt Therapy

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

DLScott CH.t. / CDP / CDP

I would like to start this blog with some good news, the good news is that you are a perfect, complete, and whole human being. We see examples of humanities goodness everywhere, but the bad news is that, through the media we are taught to focus on the idea that we are not good enough,  that we are flawed creatures, violent and warlike, unworthy of the good that life has to offer. Because of this we carry shame and guilt around with us all of the time.

We have heard this message from the media, in school, in books, and from our friends and relatives.  How many times have your parents, partners, or spouse, reminded you of your mistakes, instead of reminding you of your successes and the good things that you do. Due to this perceived guilt or shame, most people are looking for the answers outside of themselves. We are looking for answers in alcohol, drugs, obsessive compulsive behaviors, money, possessions, and relationships. The list could go on and on, but I think you get the picture.

When client’s come in to my office, with issues of being unable to quit smoking, or wanting to loose weight, or they are dealing with low self worth, having a spiritual crisis, trying to eliminate or manage issues of anger, anxiety, phobias, emotional mental or physical pain, invariable underlying feelings of guilt about something they believe they have done, or feelings of shame over some perceived wrong they have committed, or endured in their past are at the become  addicted cause of thier issues.  They have tried many methods of erasing this guilt or shame, and in th process they have  to some substance or behavior, they are experiencing pain, either emotional physical or mental, and they are experiencing continued issues in their relationships, jobs, financial situation, or are just stuck in depression, and anger.

When a client starts their sessions with Foundations Hypnosis Seattle ~ North Seattle ~ Everett, they are often times surprised to find out that the first thing  I do for them is to teach a simple technique of mindfulness to help them become unattached from the guilt and shame of old memories, beliefs, and agreements that have been guiding their lives in directions that are uncomfortable and unwanted.

Psychology has long promoted the idea of change your thinking, change your life, but with Foundations Hypnosis you will be guided in going beyond that, you will learn not to not only change your thinking, but you will be able to easily and effortlessly change your feelings.  Using hypnosis for feelings is one of the quickest and most powerfully effective ways to help with guilt or help with shame.

The Name for my brand of Hypnosis is Foundations, that name comes from the idea that we need to have  a strong and clean Foundation to build the superstructure of lives upon.  So when you come to Foundations Hypnosis North Seattle , you are going to learn techniques, skills, and tools that will allow you to build that happiness, joy, and prosperity that you have always known you deserve.

The answers are inside of yourself, but often times they are buried under old tapes, messages and wounds that bring up guilt and shame that manifest in trouble sleeping, emotional wounds, addictions such as alcohol, drugs, gambling, and severe pain and trauma. Learning Self – Hypnosis will allow you to continue to eliminate or manage feelings and stress that continue to plague most of our culture. How many people would pay anything to finally be free of feeling shame, or feeling guilt, and having to deal with the effects?  If you are a smoker think about how often you light up when you are feeling stressed, or if you are addicted to drugs or alcohol, think about why you use these substances. Could it possibly be because you are overwhelmed with stress, anxiety, guilt, or shame?

Within just a few short easy sessions, you can learn techniques that will dramatically change your life for the better. You will sleep easier, you will let go of feelings of shame, you will let go of feelings of guilt, and you will find the Foundations of peace and serenity that you have been looking for outside of yourself, has been inside all along.

Hypnosis for addicts in Seattle or Bellevue

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

DLScott CH.t / CDP / AASD

You can eliminate the bounds of addiction 100% guaranteed. You can free yourself from whatever issue or behavior you have been struggling with no matter what anyone else has told you or no matter what anyone else claims, and I have witnessed people do this with the power of their subconscious mind! These techniques are available to anyone who wishes to finally end their addictive behavior, and is taught through Foundations Hypnosis hypnosis for addicts.

I have seen people stop their daily and continued use of such drugs as Crystal Meth, Heroin, Cocaine, Alcohol, and Nicotine by learning powerful and effective methods of self hypnosis, mindfulness and meditation. Hypnotherapy help is not only available but is highly effective.

First I would like to establish, what exactly is an addict?  According to the dictionary, the word addict means to devote or surrender (oneself) to something habitually or obsessively.

Last week I started working with a client for weight loss. When they arrived for their first appointment they mentioned that they were not sure if I would be the appropriate choice for a weight loss program, due to my heavy emphasis on addiction. They went on to say that after thinking about it, they realized that some of their weight issues probably revolved around and addiction to food. I congratulated them on coming to the realization that one of the reasons that it is so hard to lose weight is because of the need to constantly focus upon food, diet, and eating.

This same rule applies to drugs, alcohol, obsessive compulsive behavior and just about any issue or problem that a person is dealing with in their lives.

Let’s look at drugs for example. Most addiction treatment is based on focusing on the idea that the drug is the enemy, and we must constantly focus on the fact that we are a drug addict, and are in a continual war on drugs.  This approach has proven to be unsuccessful on many levels. The United States has been waging a war on drugs for years, and is losing miserably. Treatment centers have continually addressed drug and alcohol addiction as a fight against the substance, and the recovery rates are very dismal. People have been fighting weight with diets and gimmicks that treat food as the enemy, something to be avoided and fought against, and yet we are experiencing epidemic levels of obesity in this country. Looking at the list of treatment centers and diet centers from Seattle, Bellevue, Shoreline, North Seattle, Everett, Lynwood, and Kirkland, seems to suggest that we have so many places to go, but are finding very little success.

Foundations Hypnosis Seattle ~ Bellevue teaches you how to reclaim the power and control in your life, by teaching you self hypnosis to relieve stress and anxiety, one of the major reasons that people use substances in an addict fashion.  Foundations also teach mindfulness techniques that are the corner stone of such treatment programs like the ones used by UW Medical Centers.  When you experience the power of your subconscious mind, and gain hypnotherapy help, you will learn to stop focusing on the problem and start focusing on the solution. It was Mother Theresa who stated, “I will not attend an anti war demonstration, but I will attend a peace demonstration”. Here was a woman who understood the true power of attention, and how you can use your own focus of attention to eliminate behaviors and addictions in your life by that power.

CALL NOW!! If you are experiencing any issues or problems with any kind of addiction, or obsessive compulsive behavior in your life, YOU CAN TAKE CONTROL, YOU CAN ELIMANATE that behavior and live a life of freedom and happiness. Foundations Hypnosis Seattle ~ Lynnwood ~ Everett  at (206) 417-4900.

Seattle Hypnotherapist Counselor – DL Scott

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

DLScott CH.t. / CDP / AASD

Welcome back, a friend of mine told me, as I arrived back from a two week retreat / vacation, on Cortes Island in British Columbia.

Things never really turn out exactly the way that you expect, and this vacation did not turn out as I expected. First off I had not expected to learn as much about myself as I have, and second off I never expected to learn as much about my counseling and hypnotherapist agency as I did.

Upon return from my vacation I opened up my e-mail and everything that I had been experiencing and learning was contained in the following e-mail:

I know you’ve never heard this before, but you were RIGHT!! All the worry, stress, freaking myself out and falling into the deep Hole of Dispair and depression over an unknown factor in my Future…. with the Demons controlling my thoughts, though I should have been concentrating on the present moment fighting with Positive Thoughts, Self- Confidence and Keeping those Damaging influences at bay!!
In my defense, and considering what I still feel my vulnerable personality , being down to less than $20. to my name and uncertain as to my continued U.I. and convinced that I had NO place to turn….
As it ultimately turned out, a relative came through with $1000, AND the next day my paperwork and check and 15 week extension of Benefits arrived in the mail…
So, sorry to ramble on like this , but I felt I needed to explain to someone! Thank you for your concern and your Help in facing similar situations in the Future!
As it turns out, I’m almost Giddy at the moment about the way it DID turn out, but I know I probably did both further physical and mental damage
by the way I reacted to the situation…
So, I’ll let you go for now and Hope you have a Fantastic Vacation in every way possible!!!!  Yours in Peace, xxxxxxxxxxxx

I have been in the field for about twenty years at this point in my career. I have clients who come to me for a variety of reasons, smoking cessation, drug addiction, self worth & self esteem, panic & anxiety, sleeping issues. pain management control, insomnia, gambling addiction, internalized homophobia, and coming out issues for the Gay and Lesbian community. When I first learned the art of hypnosis, I was trained in specific inductions, and techniques, that could help a client refocus or reprogram their minds. During all of that time as a Seattle Hypnotherapist, and Washington Certified Counselor, what have I found that works really well? What I have discovered over the years, is that clients don’t have to reprogram their minds, they simply need to be reminded that they don’t have to buy into every thought that is created or produced by the brain. They are actually the observer, the watcher, the Master of their thoughts.

I cannot repeat enough that a technique I use called Emotional Release Therapy, helps every single client let go of old lingering emotional wounds and traumas, while applying the techniques of Mindfulness, and Deep Clinical Hypnosis, provide very fast, and reliable changes in thoughts and emotions, that allow for permanent and lasting changing in the clients environment.

You see, we as a species do not create and live our lives from the outside in, but we do create and live our lives from the inside out. The outside world, our environment is a mirror of what we believe and have been taught about ourselves.  According to one of my favorite writers, Don Miguel Ruiz, “The Four Agreements”, we have been domesticated / raised with certain beliefs that we have accepted and agreed to truth. The interesting thing is, that very few of these beliefs and agreements are true.  We act as if every thought, every belief, that we have is absolutely the truth. When you come to Foundations Hypnosis, serving the greater King County area, and surrounding counties, you are taught that you are not your thoughts, you are not your feelings, you are not even really your body. You are something much more, you are the consciousness, the spirit, the soul, that inhabits that body, and it is your brain, (the most sophisticated computer in existence), that creates and produces 1000(s) of thoughts each day. Thoughts that we buy into, and believe to be true. Once you are able to become the observer or those thoughts, the watcher of the thoughts and emotions, that have ruled your life for years, you will be able to easily let go of anger, addictions, internalized phobias, fears, and insecurities that have kept you stuck for years.

Just listen to what one client said to me about how Foundations Hypnosis has helped him with his life long anger issues, issues that he had at one time been mandated to attend more traditional anger management classes:

“DL Scott, I just wanted to take a minute to tell you what you and Emotional Release Therapy have done for me. I know I still have a ways to go, but after just a few short weeks I feel more satisfaction and closer to reaching my goal than I ever did while spending almost two years in a traditional form of anger management. People in my life are already noticing the positive changes that I’m making and I’m beginning to feel myself getting closer to the ones I love. Thank you for the hope of happiness in my life.
K.L.

Different Styles of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

Different Styles of Hypnosis and

Hypnotherapy

DLScott CH.t. / CDP

Hypnosis has been around for a long time, and during that time it has gone through phases, changes and styles that match the needs and beliefs of the time.

Since ancient times it has been associated with Shamanism, religion, healing, magic, and in ancient Egypt it is believed that it was used in “sleep chambers” for the very reasons I mentioned above.

In ancient Egypt, China, Jewish rituals, and Hindu ceremonies, the Trance phenomenon was used to help elicit cures and changes in people.  This style of hypnosis continued for many years.  The common man thought of hypnosis in terms of faith healing, prayer work, and supernatural powers that were attributed to holy men, or medicine men, The Shamans of the community.

Ancient Far Eastern practices such as Buddhism,  martial arts, and meditation, were teaching people to induce trances through forms of self hypnosis, and guided imagery,  while Western philosophies were relying on forms of Prayer Work to induce the state.

It was later found that Native American practices relied on types of Prayer, sweat lodges, and even certain herbs and plants to induce altered states which we now know as the Alpha brain wave state.

The father of modern medicine, Hippocrates, did write about “incidences of hypnotic types of trance, but primarily it remained in the hands of the spiritual leaders of the tribes.

Throughout the ages there were military leaders and madmen who seemed to grasp the ability to utilize certain words and phrases that would incite people, actually manipulate them into a form of mass hypnosis.

Due to the work and research of such people of Anton Mesmer; from whom we get the term mesmerism; people like Janet Bramwell, Roger Bacon, Emile Coue, and noted father of psychology Sigmund Freud, Hypnosis has slowly been brought into the modern times.

Most people have received their knowledge of hypnosis, and hypnotherapy through the entertainment field, stage hypnotist, movies, television, and books, and generally when clients come to see me for the first time, or call me to ask questions about the process, their questions are usually based on what they have seen or heard through the field of entertainment.

One other little discussed field of hypnosis, (in the clinic field of hypnosis that is),  is erotic hypnosis which is primarily concerned with such things as fetishes, animal training, submission, and sexual fantasies.

Many people are not aware that the modern day movement known as New Thought Spirituality was actually started by a man named Phinneas Parkhurst Quimby, a hypnotist who lived in the later part of the 19th century and the earlier part of the 20th century.  Phinneas was a talented hypnotized who deduced that many spiritual healings were actually accomplished through hypnotic trance.  He went on to train such people as Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of The Church of Christian Science, and his trainings influenced Ernest Holmes, the Founder of The Church of Religious Science and Charles and Myrtle Philmore, who founded The Unity Church.  Each of these churches teaches a variation of a technique called Scientific Mind Treatment. Scientific Mind Treatment usually includes having the person close their eyes, focuses on their breathing, and use some form of words or guided images which help to induce and deepen the trance phenomenon.

One of the more recent avenues of interest when it comes to New Thought Spirituality is the idea of The Law of Attraction. The basic idea of The Law of Attraction is that we attract into our lives, that which we focus our attention on.  There are many people and groups that have capitalized on this belief and claiming that just by using guided imagery, meditation, and specific forms of self hypnosis, you can alter or change your life by producing the physical manifestation of anything that you concentrate on in your mind.  While the idea is being shown to be true through such fields of research as Quantum Physics,  the popularizing of the effect is being thrown at the general public without including such important factors such as gaining control of your feelings, emotions, and thoughts, through such things as Emotional Release Therapy, of The Law of Conscious Attention.  All of these factors and ideas are utilized and taught through hypnosis, self hypnosis, and such techniques as EMDR.

In the late sixties a man named Jose Silva developed a wildly successful program called Silva Mind Control.  While Mr. Silva said that his program was deferent than hypnosis, it actually trained the participant in a form of meditation or self hypnosis, and allowed the participant to lower their brain waves patterns into the Alpha brain wave state. While in this state, Mr. Silva used guided imagery to create all manner of effects that produce physical healings, allow weight loss, smoking cessation, and produce an increase in desired events and activities.  All of these same effects are documented and recorded in people who  utilize hypnosis and self hypnosis.

More recently there has been resurgence in the practice of Buddhism, and the more modern version in our culture, Mindfulness.  Mindfulness is being taught, through programs at such places as the University of Washington, to patients in an effort to help manage their cravings to substances such as alcohol, and other chemical substances.

In any case hypnosis utilizes specific techniques that access the incredible potential and power of the conscious and subconscious mind.

In my own practice I teach clients to use Emotional Release Therapy, self hypnosis, and specific mindfulness techniques to help them release, manage, and eliminate beliefs and behaviors that have caused them to remain stuck in problems and issues that they have not been able to deal with through any other form of therapy.

My clients will come seeking magic, a type of treatment that will put them to sleep and when they wake up there problems will be gone.  What they find is a way to access an incredible power that they have had all along, the power to use the energy of their subconscious mind to cure themselves.  They are taught to take control of their thoughts and emotions, to learn how to become the Master of their lives, instead of the victims of their circumstances. Hypnosis and Chemical Dependency Part Two

Emotional Release Therapy

Hypnosis & the Ego

DLScott CH.t / CDP / AASD

In my last blog, I mentioned that I and a fellow hypnotherapist lead a class on Saturday June 26th, on Emotional Release Therapy.  In the past several years I have used this technique to help people move beyond their chemical dependency issues, utilizing clinical hypnosis,  and self hypnosis techniques, that teach clients how to let go of old thoughts and old behaviors, that have kept them stuck in the same patterns for years.

It brings to mind the question just what is the subconscious mind, and why does it create such problems for people?

There are basically three parts to your brain, The first part is the reptilian brain, this part of your brain is primarily in control of all automatic and autonomic functions of life, such as breathing,  pulse rate, and blood flow,  all those bodily functions that we have to have to live, and yet we never have to think of.

The second part of your brain is the sub cortical or subconscious.  From the moment you are first born all of the events, experiences, and information are downloaded into your subconscious through your senses; sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell. Each and every one of these images is neatly tucked away and utilized as part of our unique personal programming.  In many cases this programming becomes outdated and corrupted throughout time.

As an example, you when you were younger you may have had an adult grab you and pull you out of harm’s way, (such as being pulled from incoming traffic), this was actually a very good thing, but your young mind perceived it as someone manhandling you, or pushing you around. The recorded memory was there, it stayed there, and over time the message you received became corrupted and told you that people were going to restrict your movements, try to control you, etc. The subconscious simply does its job and keeps playing this memory over and over again, you may have even gotten to the point where you don’t consciously recall the incident, but you do feel the emotions that have gotten attached to that image.

In the present time, you constantly feel like you are constricted, controlled, pushed around, not listened to, and you exhibit behaviors that might temporarily make you feel better, BUT once the temporary fix is over, you are still in the same spot trying to deal with  memories and images that create feelings of low self worth, lack of control, etc.

The Ego is that collection of memories and images contained in your subconscious, your thoughts, where these often times buried or masked images play over and over again, and we are unaware that we have given our control and power away, allowing these things to guide and create our life.

With the techniques of Emotional Release Therapy, and Mindfulness Training, you will be astounded at the speed and ease in which you will let go of the emotions attached to those thousands and thousands of random and often useless thoughts that fill our subconscious.

If you had to monitor each and every thought that make up your Ego, you would never have time to do anything else. With Emotional Release Therapy, and Mindfulness training, you will be able to let go of the idea that you are those thoughts, that you are your feelings, and instead you will become the absolute master and controller of your own brain.

By becoming single minded you will be able to utilize the third part of your brain, the Cortex. The Cortex is that part of your brain, in which you are able to bypass the Ego, or the subconscious, and experience pure thought without the trauma of emotion that keeps you stuck.

Just listen to what one student of the class had to say:

“After taking the Emotional Freedom Therapy class I noticed several breakthroughs!  The process is so simple yet very profound.  I had a deeper sense of self choice and self forgiveness in every area of my life as well as releasing stress.  The idea that I can discover if I am single minded (eliminate the subconscious saboteur) with every issue I want to address was powerful.  I now have a new tool in my tool belt! Thank you for sharing your passion and your gifts.”

Once we learn to connect with our true selves, and utilize that part of our brain called the Cortex, there is nothing that can hold you back.

Kathie and I will be representing this class this fall, but in the meantime you can give yourself the gift of a new life, in which you can experience, increased self worth and esteem, you will easily eliminate phobias, stress, fears, and anxiety. You will free yourself from addiction to cigarettes. You will be able to eliminate chemical dependency issues, and you will be able to create and live the life your dreams.

Hypnosis and Chemical Dependency

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Part One

DLScott CH.t. / CDP / AASD

What if you could stop the use of addictive substances swiftly, easily, and with minimal effort? What if you could learn how to gain the same good feelings, and stress relieving benefits that you get when you indulge in your favorite substance or compulsive behavior?

This Saturday, June 26 I, and a fellow hypnotherapist, Kathie Brodie, are leading the first of a class called Emotional Release Therapy, and although the title suggests that it is just about a hypnotic technique designed to help clients detach from negative and fear based emotions that keep them stuck in old patterns and behaviors, it is much more than that. It is in fact a class that teaches a technique I refined during my work in outpatient chemical dependency treatment centers, helping clients have amazing success with their recovery issues while working within the context of chemical dependency counseling, and adding the power of clinical hypnotherapy.

You see I have worked in outpatient chemical dependency  for a little over twenty years, and while I have had the opportunity to use and practice the skills of the various concepts of chemical dependency counseling, helping people to create and live a life of sobriety, in both the outpatient chemical dependency arena, and the inpatient chemical dependency treatment arena, better known to those in the field as residential treatment centers, I have also had the opportunity to learn and use hypnosis and chemical dependency counseling in tandem.

As an example, a recent client had come to me with a complaint of addiction to alcohol. Oxiconten and nicotine.  I  spent the first session performing the ASAM, (American Society of Addiction Medication), evaluation coupled with an evaluation geared more specifically toward nicotine and Mental Health issues, and came up with a program that included clinical hypnotherapy techniques, chemical dependency counseling,  daily self hypnosis exercises,  off site support, (not specifically 12 step support, but if the client so chooses,  that type of support is encouraged and honored),  and specifically Emotional Release Therapy to enhance outpatient chemical dependency counseling.  I am happy to report that the client has not used in over three weeks, and is actively pursuing their goals in a number of arenas such as increased employment, and healthier relationships.

I worked for years in treatment centers that demanded strict adherence to traditional concepts of chemical dependency counseling.  Treatment centers that produced cookie cutter treatment plans that did not take into account the personality, the strengths, and the weaknesses of the clients that they were serving. Instead of immediately sending a person off to residential treatment, or simply assuming long held beliefs regarding all of the various issues that the client brings into the treatment center I wanted to work in a place where the client is given solid chemical dependency counseling, and shown how to enhance their own strengths and how to manage or eliminate old negative beliefs and behaviors through the use of clinical hypnotherapy, and the power of hypnosis, and self hypnosis.

While working in the field I was introduced to the power of Mindfulness as taught to clients in an outpatient chemical dependency treatment program that started and continue at the University of Washington.  Adding to these powerful Mindfulness treatment concepts I teach and utilize clinical hypnotherapy that accelerates a client’s progress so that they do not get stuck in months and months of traditional outpatient or inpatient treatment programs.

Many clients are leery about traditional chemical dependency treatment, whether it is residential treatment or outpatient treatment.  They have expressed fears and concerns re: getting stuck in months and months of focus upon the issues, instead of swift and powerful techniques that focus on the solutions.

Hypnosis ~ Addictions in Seattle ~ Lynnwood ~ Everett

Friday, June 11th, 2010

DLScott CH.t. / CDP

One of the most frequent request that I receive from potential clients is help with obsessive compulsive behaviors or addictions. This can and does include, stop smoking, alcohol, and drug abuse / addiction, eating addiction, and some form of behavioral issues such as sexual addiction or performance anxiety.

Hypnosis is not a magic bullet, it will not magically cure any condition or eliminate any behavior, but it what it will do is increase your own ability to eliminate or manage any issue or condition that you are trying to deal with.

One of the most well known hypnotists of the twentieth century was Dr. Milton Erickson. He often told clients that “you have tried to solve the problem at the conscious level of your mind, and have failed miserable, now it is time to resolve the issue at the subconscious level of your mind”.  Dr. Erickson’s statement is based on the fact that there is a well known rule of the mind called the law of conflict. When the subconscious and the conscious portions of the mind are in conflict, your subconscious will always win. This fact has been proven over and over again by smokers who try to quit smoking without outside help, or substance abusers who can’t quit by just will power alone.  Along with these common addictions there are dieters who can’t seem to lose weight, or people who are frozen by the fear of public speaking, or people who suffer from performance anxiety while engaging in the sexual act. (Just look at the sales figures of such drugs as Viagra to get an idea of how prevalent these issues are).

People are paying millions of dollars a year on prescription medications to help them alleviate their obsessions, addictions and compulsions, and yet the problems persist.

The American Medical Association, and the American Psychological Association recognized hypnotism as a valid medical procedure in the year 1958, and in the year 1995 the National Institute of Health recommended hypnotherapy as a treatment for chronic pain, both physical and emotional.

Hypnotherapy is an effective tool in reducing the fear and anxiety that accompany pain and uncomfortable medical or dental procedures, and has also proven very effective at eliminating the root causes of stress and anxiety associated with a variety of behavioral issues such as substance use, sleep walking, nail biting, smoking cigarettes, eating disorders, phobias, and even thumb sucking.

Don’t Delay, cakk for your first session now, and start living the life you have always dreamed of. Foundations Hypnosis and Chemical Dependency Seattle ~ Lynnwood ~ Everett (206) 417-4900
