How Hypnosis and NLP Retrains your Subconsious

First off, why does the Law of Attraction work and what is the scientific explanation?

When we have a thought, we are creating a Neuro pathway in the brain. Every time we revisit that thought, we are using the same Neuro pathway. As an example I want you to think of something unpleasant, something that has made you frustrated or angry. Allow yourself to view this image, give it color, brightness, and clarity. Now I want you to think of that image and this time make it  black and white, dull, grainy, and give it some really silly background music, such as music in a cartoon, or music from a circus.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being very unpleasant and 1 being neutral, I want you to once again think of the image you just changed, and you will realize that the unpleasantness, the anger or the frustration is diminished, you are no longer able to feel the same about the image, and or the event. You don’t have to struggle with trying not to get angry, you simply can’t feel angry, or you can’t feel the same level of anger. The more you practice this technique, the more you will recognize that your anger, or unpleasantness is gone. Your brain has done exactly what it is suppose to do; it has changed the image and has now accessed a new Neuro pathway. It has done this without any conscious effort on your part, except to change the content of the image. With this new image and new Neuro pathway you are producing a positive charge as opposed to the negative charge.

There is no magic power at work, it is a simple and very understandable fact of neurology.

Once you have removed the blocks, (unwanted negative emotions), that keep you from experiencing the type of life you desire, then you will learn how to use the tool of attention, to start moving the process toward gaining the life you desire.

Letting Go of The Ego with Hypnosis, Mindfulness, and NLP

It is hard to believe that 2010 is almost over, and we are getting ready to experience the beginning of a new decade. Are you ready to experience the best decade of your life, or are you still hanging on to old beliefs, old behaviors, and all the things that Your Ego dictates is what you are. One of the firsts thing that I teach my clients is the fact that while we are not our thoughts, we are not our feelings, and we are not our body, we certainly experience our thoughts feelings, and body. And we usually experience it in such a way that could swear that these things are exactly what we are.

Think about that, if someone asks you, “Who are you?” what would you answer?  Most of us would answer, “I am (fill in your name)”, or I am an American citizen, or I am a father, a mother, an (fill in your occupation)”, and a whole list of who we are according to the roles that we play.  Therein lays the problem. We believe we are these things, these roles that we play, such as “I am an addict, I am a cancer victim, I am the survivor of abuse”, and once again the list goes on and on.  It is the EGO that plays these roles, and they actually break down into three roles, 1) Victim, 2) Perpetrator 3) Hero. When your EGO is playing any one of these roles, it has the one thing that it really wants. It has the starring role in the drama you call your life.

What if you were able to do things differently in 2011? What if you were able to stop being a victim, a slave to your thoughts, and feelings, what if you could consciously let go of playing a role in your life, and actually begin living and experiencing your life the way you truly want and desire. What if you found out how easy it is too actually take control, become the master of those thoughts and feelings? It can be done, and one of the easiest ways of doing this is through the use of Hypnosis, Mindfulness and NLP.

Using the techniques of mindfulness and hypnosis, (plus the technique known as Emotional Release Therapy, which has helped hundreds of people eliminate addictive behavior from their lives), I teach my clients how to unattach from these roles created by our thoughts, and allow themselves to become the conscious observer of these thoughts and feelings, and roles.

The first thing to do is to learn to observe the thoughts, don’t attach to them simply let them float through your mind. Long ago in a conference class through Washington Hypnosis Association, I learned a technique that is an easy and effective way of doing this, and can be done without having to go into a deep meditative trance.

The next time you have a thought come up, such as when someone annoys you or does something that is rude, such as tries to cut in line in front of you, simply stop and ask yourself the question, “where did this thought come from”, answer yourself, “from me”, then ask, “who created this thought”, answer, “I created this thought” then ask yourself the question, “who am I”.  No matter what the answer, such as “I am (name)”, or “I am a male, female. Etc.” do not try to analyze the answer, simply go right back to the first question, “now where did that thought come from”. 

As you continue to run these questions through your mind, you will begin to notice that every thought is just that, it is a thought, and nothing more.  I personally practice this technique a lot, and have found that I react to my thoughts less and less, and this gives me more options in which I can choose how I want to react in any given situation.

With just this simple Mindfulness technique you can start letting go attachments to your EGO / brain created thoughts, feelings and roles, and start choosing a way of relating to the world and especially your immediate environment that will create and attract a life of abundance, happiness, and joy.

Using Mindfulness you will be able to let go of thoughts and emotions that have kept us stuck, and by adding the deep trance state of Hypnosis you will be able to implant new images, new messages, and the type of positive thoughts and images that will manifest the type of life you desire.

Where Does Your Confidence Come From?

Just recently I have received several phone calls re: the use of hypnosis to help raise a person’s confidence as they try to return to the job market.

The popular answer may seem obvious to those going through this process, and the answer is tied into what people are seeing as a slow economy, and lack of opportunity, BUT……..

Consider for a moment that we live from the inside out. Our beliefs, our agreements, our feelings are created by our thoughts, and our thoughts are created by the words we speak, the words we read, the words we hear, and the words we think.

Now if we focus on the fact that those numbers suggest that we have 90.2% employment then we feel lighter, and more hopeful. We are motivated to keep moving, and keep looking.

With that said, it would be good to remember why we immediately are hooked by the negative aspects of any situation instead of the positive. We gain our self concept from many sources, beginning in our child hood with family, friends, church, media, and school. If were contently given the message that you were no good, you were unworthy, you didn’t deserve good things, (were told that you had to get perfect scores in school, or were you told that you should always do your best?), then your subconscious was recording these ideas, and you were developing the basis of your own self – worth, esteem, and confidence from these words.  These words created thoughts, and these thoughts created feelings. We live from the feelings that we produce and experience.

Removing Doubt Hypnosis & The Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction is at work all the time. Whenever we think something, or feel something, the Law of Attraction is at work, arranging and uncovering everything that needs to happen to manifest your desire.

What exactly is the Law of Attention? Is it some magical power that you can use to create anything in your life, to get anything that you want? Or is it a basic rule of physics that has been proving over and over again, vibrations attract vibrations. 

Everything that exists is made up of atoms, the things that you call matter, and the things that you call energy are both made up of atoms. The atoms that make everything up vibrate with a specific frequency, based on the movement of protons, and electrons around a nucleus.  Our thoughts and our feelings are measurable bits of electro – chemical energy. This means that our thoughts and feelings have specific measurable vibratory patterns, and since the rule of physics is that vibrations attract similar vibrations, then our thoughts and feelings have to attract other similar vibrational patterns.

With that said, what does it mean for you? Does it mean that whatever happens to you or is experienced by you was created by you? Well the answer is yes and no. We did not physically create the events and experiences that we manifest into our lives, but we did attract them through our thoughts and feelings.

Many of my clients and friends will point out that they did not attract the traffic jam that made them late for work, they did not create the horrible relationship that just broke up, they did not cause the loss of their job, and while that may be true. They did attract the vibrational pattern of these events simply by focusing on corresponding negative or positive thoughts and feelings. Think about that. When you get out of bed in the morning, you stub your toe, or you wake up frantic because the alarm didn’t go off, and you are late, and soon things keep getting worse, you spill coffee on your clean shirt, you cut yourself shaving, you run into a traffic jam. Your Law of Attraction is working perfectly. You are focused on negative thoughts and feelings, and the Law is simply responding by arranging and or uncovering events that will allow you to continue to feel and experience your focus of attention. The Law does not discriminate; it simply does its job.

What you need to do is a simple three step process to help you switch your attention to something more positive, and thus attract something more positive in your life.

Step One: Deliberate Manifestation: Decide what you want to experience. Do you want to experience peace, calmness, or joy? Then focus on those things. It is not always easy, when you stub your toe, or you are late to work, or your boss is generally disagreeable, then it will take practice to switch your focus, but believe me when you put this step into place, you will very swiftly start to notice that things begin to show up, that will make your day more pleasurable, and more joy filled.

Step Two: Focus on your desire: Once you have identified what it is that you really want to experience, you will need to begin to focus your attention on that desire. Sounds simple, but just because something is simple, does not mean that it is easy to do.

When you tell yourself “I am thin and slender, I have a wonderful relationship that is nurturing and kind”, and yet you feel resistance and negativity because  mind automatically tells you, “that is not true, I am still overweight, or I am still in a bad relationship, etc,” you will need to remind yourself that life is a journey, and that we are always experiencing changes. Focusing on the steps, observing the small changes that occur, will allow you to build up your positive belief. Keeping a daily gratitude journal or a daily success journal are two easy and effective ways of helping you to change from a negative focus to a positive focus.

Step Three: Release and Let Go: The third step is often the most overlooked step, and yet it is one of the most important. I have seen people declare what they want, I have seen them focus on what they want, and then they let doubts creep in. “I can’t lose weight, I have always been fat, or everyone in my family is overweight, or I never meet the right person to be in a good relationship”.  These are simply excuses that our minds create, out of old programming,  to keep us stuck in familiar patterns and behaviors.  

Most of what clients come to see me about started with feelings of low self worth and esteem, and feelings of being unworthy. When you have done steps 1 and 2 of The Deliberate Law of Attraction, you will find that the results may be very slow, or will not come at all if you don’t remove feelings of doubt and negative beliefs.

All of us want to affect our world for the better. Many of us wake up each day, we look around and we see the things that are not working. On a large scale we see a shaky economy, health care concerns, hate crimes, pollution, and abuse of children, women, and minorities. Generally we are a society of rules, and regulations. We have been taught to believe that by passing more laws and adhering to various religious commandments these problems will be resolved. Every day we here about congress trying to pass this law or that law, and these laws and rules will make things better. This is basically what Albert Einstein had stated when he said, “You can’t solve the problem at the level of the problem”.

We live, and generally accept a belief system that relies heavily upon the idea of cause and effect.  Whenever something occurs in our life, we are taught that it happened because of something we did. While this is often true, (a good example would be, I missed my bus to work because I took so long in getting dressed and out the door), but what if we got dressed in the same way we always do, what if we got out of the door at the same time, and then we ended up running into a traffic accident on the way to the park & ride, and this got us to the bus stop five minutes after the bus left. Sometimes things just happen, sometimes, as Freud said, “a cigar is just a cigar”.

I can’t begin to count the amount of clients whom I see that complain that they can’t get ahead in life because of an abusive childhood, or because Mom or Dad didn’t guide them toward college, or because “___________”.

I would be hard pressed to explain to you just how you could have changed your perceived abusive childhood, or how you could have prevented an traffic accident that happened before you arrived on the scene.

Hypnosis and Coming Out and The Law of Attraction in the GBLT Community

Do find yourself struggling with issues of self acceptance. Do find that despite everything you have read about the Law of Attraction, from watching the movies by Louise Hay, Dr. Wayne Dyer,  “What the Bleep, and The Secret”, reading books by  countless new thought authors such as Jerry and Ester Hicks, or Gregg Braden, you are still not getting the results that you want.

Do you ever wonder why the gay community has a higher incidence rate of suicide, alcoholism, drug addiction, sex addiction, and a higher rate of HIV / AIDS. While at the same time you read about how the members of the gay community have a higher expendable income than most. Perhaps it is time to turn our attention to what is inside of ourselves, instead of constantly focusing on what is going on in the outside world.

The one thing that gets over looked is that members of the  gay community are hypnotized into believing that they are less than, they are not as good as, and they do not deserve the same abundance and prosperity that their straight counter parts deserve. Many of in the community still feel as though they have to hide themselves from certain segments of the population, they constantly feel attacked and belittled by the majority of the population. After years of fighting for basic rights, and struggling to come out, there still seems to be a tough road that lies ahead.

As you may known from the already mentioned movies and books on the subject, the secret to a happier and prosperous life is to think positive thoughts and focus on what we really want in life, but something seems to always get in our way.  That something is our own BRAIN and how it functions. You see no matter how many positive thoughts you can think, no matter how often you can get yourself into a happy mood, the brain is designed to react to anything that threatens your survival. The problem is that we have been raised to believe that every negative thought, every negative or uncomfortable event; from a car cutting us off in traffic, or a client who is less than receptive to our sales presentation; is responded to swiftly and single mindedly as a threat to our existence. How many times have you been focused on “I am not good enough, I am going to loss my job, I am going to loss my relationship, or in some cases I am going to have my rights taking away”. 

Every time you hear something that does not feel good, your brain immediately perceives this as a threat, and goes into a fight or flight response. When you go into a flight or fight mode, our emotions go into a negative spiral, we get angry, we depressed, we get afraid, we begin to worry about what might happen to us because of the perceived threat, and it gets to the point that no matter how much you try focus on what you want, your worry about what you don’t want overpowers you, and pretty soon all of those negative things that you have been worried about are starting to actually occur in your life, and when they actually occur in your life, you BRAIN becomes even more reactive, and more focused on the negative events.

What can you do?

The first thing to do is learn how to shift your attention. Learn how to meditate using self hypnosis, and learn how to change the vibrational frequency of emotions.  If you are angry, afraid, worried, or upset, just thinking about making more money, getting a better relationship, is not going to happen very easily. First you have to let go of the old emotions, and start feeling different.

By learning to meditate, by learning how to use Hypnosis, and a technique called Mindfulness, you can begin to take charge of your emotions and your thoughts and start attracting the kind of life that you want instead of the kind of life that you don’t want.

Hypnosis and The Law of Attraction

According to the latest neuroscience research there is evidence and proof that our thoughts and feelings change the structure of our brains and the way that our brain functions. Another way of saying this is what you think is what you get.  That sounds simple enough, “if I just change my thinking, then I will get a different result”.  The question then becomes, why is it so hard to change my thoughts?

So many clients come to see me and are hoping that I can put them to sleep and by saying a few magic words while they are in a deep state of hypnosis, such as “smoking will make you sick, smoking will make you sick”, they will immediately and completely stop smoking. The same can be said for people who come to me for any other alcohol, drug, or obsessive compulsive behavior.  While it true that new thoughts, new images, can be generated in the brain while a person is in a deeply relaxed state of mind, the question becomes what type of thoughts are going to get the results that you are looking for.

The brain consists of three basic parts or areas. Each area is in charge of different activities or jobs.  The reptilian brain is in charge of autonomic functions, such as breathing, heart rate, blood flow,  and thousands of other bodily functions that we don’t have to give much conscious thought to. The sub-cortical or subconscious brain is in charge of the storage of
thousands and thousands of deeply held beliefs and ideas, and finally the cortex or the conscious brain is in charge of higher thinking and higher reasoning.

While the brain is still being researched and new discoveries are being made every day, what we do know is that most of behaviors and actions spring from the thousands and thousands of thoughts, images, and ideas held in the sub-cortical or subconscious portion of our brain. Since we were very young we, each and every one of us, have given our power over to the sub-cortical region of our brain, and this is what causes most of our problems. What we think of as our brain, (the sub-cortical region), gives far more attention to our negative thoughts and feelings then to our positive thoughts and feelings.

WHY?

Our subconscious reacts to each and every thought, but it reacts to the negative thoughts and feelings as though they are a threat to our survival. Our basic programming is directed to our survival and  whenever the brain perceives a threat to that survival, it goes into a fight or flight mode. This fight or flight mode produces stress, and anxiety in the body, it causes our blood pressure to rise, it causes  our muscles to tense up, it causes our breathing to become faster and shallower, it causes certain systems in our body to shut down temporarily, so we can focus on the perceived threat. They are a few  more physical reactions that occur, but hopefully you get the general idea.

The point is to then replace negative thoughts and feelings with positive thoughts and feelings. If that is the case then why not just have a client come in, help them go into a deeply relaxed state of consciousness, and fill them with thoughts of what they want, instead of what they don’t want.

That is one of the things that happens when you visit Foundations Hypnosis ~ Seattle, but it not the complete answer to attracting what you want. First you must let go of the old attachments to beliefs and ideas that are causing you problems, those underlying issues that most of us are constantly reacting to, and dealing with by such behaviors as obsessive compulsive behaviors and addictions.

I want you to try something right now, I want you to not think of the statue of liberty in New York harbor. Before you can not think of the statue of liberty in New York harbor, your brain has to create an image of the statue of liberty, to not think about. It is the same with everything you try not to think of. First your brain must create the image, so it knows not what to think about.  The first order of business with any client is to help them detach from the negative effects of thoughts and images.

This where Emotional Release Therapy comes in. By tricking the brain into its survival technique, you can actually let go of the attachment to emotions that are created or generated by the negative images and beliefs, without having to focus on what the negative image or belief is.

Once this is accomplished in the office, and you are instructed in simple ways to continue this effect throughout your week, you then come back in and are now guided through images that are geared toward the experiences you want. You will not receive a bunch of negative images and messages that tell you to not focus on the behavior you are trying to get rid of, instead you will be receive new images and new messages about what you want to experience.  Think about that, if you are trying to quit smoking, would it be better to think about smoking and how bad it is for you, or would it be better to experience new behaviors and new images of things that can produce the results you once thought that you needed cigarettes to get, such as relaxation, something to do with your hands, ways of socializing with friends, etc.

To really make changes in your life, and your life circumstances you must participate in the activities that will help you to accomplish those changes, such as daily self hypnosis and meditations, daily gratitude, and simple daily mindfulness exercises. I have witnessed what some would call miracles. I have seen people recovery from daily use of drugs, I have seen people eliminate anger, panic, anxiety, and phobias from their lives, all within a matter of weeks. Hypnosis is the key, you are going to have to participate by putting the key in lock.
