What are the first memories that you can recall?

Whether we recall them on a conscious level or unconscious level, we start collecting memories while we are developing in the womb. Our memories may not be in the form of verbal language, but we do take in feelings and frequencies from all of those around us, especially our parents and family members.

When I first started working in the counseling and social work field, I did so due to advice that I had received from several Drs. that I was working with on an Oncology Unit of a large Hospital in Seattle Washington.  I was working as a Medical Asst. and was told that patients can receive all of the radiation therapy, and chemotherapy that you can give them, but if they are dealing with stress and anxiety, then the radiation and chemotherapy therapy will not be as effective. These words sent me on a thirty + year journey that has brought me to my current role as a Social Worker, Hypnotherapist, and Life Coach.

Over the last thirty + years I have worked in the field as a Substance Use Dependency Professional with a large focus on Mindfulness and Awareness, and also in Private Practice as a Clinical / Medical Hypnotherapist and Certified Life Coach.

When I first started work in Chemical Dependency Agency, the field was following ideas, rules, and treatment, that came from 12 step programs that primarily held the rule that “Once an Alcoholic / Drug Addict, always an Alcoholic / Drug Addict”.  It was believed that there was no cure for Addictions. Things have changed over the years.

Dr. Bill W, who started the 12 step program, claimed in the newspapers that he had been cured of his alcoholism.

HOW WAS THIS POSSIBLE?

As many of you have heard, more and more states are legalizing drugs, such as Psilocybin, (magic mushrooms),  to be used in micro dosing during Mental Health Therapy.  This is not a new idea, back in the thirties, forties and fifties, , when Dr. Bill was seeing a Psychiatrist, William Duncan Silkworth, he was being given micro dosages of  LSD. According to him, and his Psychiatrist, Dr. Bill was cured of his Alcoholism by the controlled micro dosing of LSD. Both Psilocybin, and LSD change the intensity and frequency of our brain wave patterns, and in many cases will cause spiritual experiences. Now please remember that Dr. Bill was not just randomly taking LSD on his own, but he was under medical supervision while taking this powerful drug.

Generally our brain wave frequencies beat in beats per second, just like our hearts beat in beats per minute. When we are under trauma, i.e., stress or feel in danger, our brain wave frequencies speed up and we are placed in the Sympathetic Nervous, where are bodies, our muscles, are filled with chemicals such as cortisol, and adrenaline, to allow us to prepare to protect ourselves from the danger or stress that we sensed, by readying us for Flight, Fight, or Freeze.

In the ancient past this Sympathetic Nervous response, the flight, fight, or freeze, response helped saved us from attacks by wild animals, starvation, or any number of actually things and events that could take our lives. In our lives today we still experience the flight, fight, or freeze response when we feel stressed or under attack, but that stress or attack can come from things like verbal abuse, bullying, emotional abuse, and the lingering effects of child abuse.  To have these types of responses does not mean that you are mentally ill, or unstable, it simply means that you are a perfectly normal human being, who is geared toward self protection.

The mind knows no difference between a real or imaged event. Much of what we respond to are memories, and we have been gathering since our time in the womb. What I have learned from my practice as a Hypnotherapist, is that YOU have the power to take control of your responses to your thoughts, images, messages, and memories. By using Hypnosis, and the Foundations Medical Hypnosis technique of Emotional Release Therapy, you can lower the frequency of YOUR brain wave patterns and take yourself out of the Sympathetic Nervous System, and place your self in the Para – Sympathetic Nervous System, in which your body, muscles, are flooded with positive chemicals such as Norenephrine, Dopamine, and Serotonin, which cause a profound sense of peace, and relaxation. Just like the effect of such drugs, such as Psilocybin, and LSD, you can learn to switch from the Sympathetic to the Para Sympathetic Nervous System and change your responses to stress, anxiety, and trauma.

It has been determined that addictions to anything, such as drugs, alcohol, food, and nicotine are coping mechanisms. These coping mechanisms are used to try and change our feelings, our brain wave frequencies. Instead of thinking of your usage as bad, and evil, think of your usage as your attempt to make yourself feel different. The biggest problem is that the usage of these coping mechanisms cause physical addictions which often times need  the guidance and help of medical detoxification.

Once you have dealt with your detox issues you will need to find healthy and positive coping mechanisms. Hypnosis, especially hypnosis that utilizes such tools as Emotional Release Therapy, will teach how to use Coping Mechanisms that are healthy and actually produce positive effects in the body, you will find that your cravings for your former addictions, are no longer required.

So I ask again, where are your memories held, and how can you change your responses to these memories?
